Rare White Lions
By Ms Chor Lor | June 2, 2009 | 63 views
We have all heard of white tigers. We even can see white tigers in our local Zoo. But have you heard of white lions before?
I just learn and knew today, there are white lions too.
It is reported such white lions are extremely rare. And just like white tigers, they are born white due to a genetic mutation.
It is believed 500 are under captivity. But white lions are not protected under the law though unlike white tigers. This is because they have not been officially classified as a sub species “white lions”. Which means they are still classified under the species “lions” and lions are not on the protection list.
Hope these lions can get recognised soon and been listed under almost extinct animals and be protected just like white tigers.
