Cuba pays for transgender sex change surgeries !

Mariela Castro, the daughter of the President, told reporters in an interview lately, that yes, Cuba has been paying for the sex change surgery for transgenders since 2008.
8 people had their state funded surgery through the past years and 22 more are on the waiting list.
The first sex change surgery was done in Cuba in 1988, which caused an outcry, and was later banned since then. The ban was only overlifted in 2007. But she added the change was never made public so as not to stir up an outcry again.
Ms Castro was also one of the best well known gay rights advocate in the country, and she was the one who fighted for the legalised of sex change.
However in general, the social attitudes of the people are still very negative towards the gays in the country.
